Great place to stay v e r y close to the beach;
Great place to stay v e r y close to the beach; you hear the wind and waves all night which was nice.
The hotel is mentioned twice on maps.me; stop at the first (there is no second Balamku Inn on the Beach). The road there is not so good and could have a slight toll on your (rental) car if not drive v e r y slowly.

Peace and quiet out of this world! Natural and scenic, friendly staff, all the comforts you need.
Extremely quiet and peaceful, sooo relaxing! Good kayaks and lots of them, nice new equipment. Rooms are very large, comfortable and tastefully decorated. Ample breakfast, many choices. Beautiful place and scenery! Neighboring restaurants are both fantastic.
The bumpy, shallow seabottom makes it a bit hard to get into and out of the water. We came during a storm, and the water was muddy throughout our four day stay, with seaweed and plastic at the shore and in the water. I'm sure it's super nice in better weather, and they did get the beach cleaned up eventually. Downtown Mahahual (5 km) has protected waters and decent snorkeling - wouldn't want to stay there, but a nice place to spend a few hours in clearer water.

Comfortable eco hotel with professional service. It was not snowing.
This :( is not the fault of the hotel. The sea is not clean close to the shore possibly due to the discharge from the cruise ships. We waded thru the seaweed and the "brown" water to swim in the cleaner water.

What was the highlight of Balamku Inn on the Beach Hotel
Beautiful location but a let down.
The staff was incredibly kind and helpful. Especially Monica! Breakfast was delicious, including coffee, and there were many options. We enjoyed being far away from the cruise ship crowd. Enjoyed riding bikes to town to eat lunch and swim on sandy beaches.
We requested a second story room when making reservation - they wrote back and said yes. But instead upon arrival received a room set back from the beach, windows (and subsequently the view) hidden by the foliage. No ocean view from the room. We were also disappointed that we needed to rent bicycles for 150pesos/day. I think it's unfortunate to be charged for use of bicycles when paying at this price point for a room. If I had known we would not have an ocean view and would be charged for bicycles I would have easily chose to make a different reservation for same or similar price at any number of other guesthouses nearby that all had an unobstructed ocean view and "free" access to bicycles. We aren't rich and must save up all year long for our vacation so this was a big disappointment.
